The Next Journal of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology (NJIDE) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing the science and practice of infectious disease epidemiology, outbreak investigation, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance, and global health security. NJIDE publishes original research, methodological advances, and field reports that contribute to the prevention, detection, and control of infectious diseases worldwide.

NJIDE is a fully open-access journal. All articles are freely available online immediately upon publication, without subscription or pay-per-view fees. Authors retain copyright of their work under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. NJIDE is committed to removing financial barriers to research dissemination for authors and readers alike.
NJIDE operates a rigorous, single-anonymized peer-review process designed to uphold the highest standards of scientific integrity. All submitted manuscripts are first assessed by the editorial team for scope, quality, and adherence to ethical guidelines. Manuscripts meeting minimum standards are assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers with relevant expertise. The editorial board makes final decisions on acceptance, revision, or rejection based on reviewer recommendations and editorial judgment.
The typical time from submission to first editorial decision is 2 to 4 weeks. Authors are encouraged to suggest qualified reviewers and to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. NJIDE maintains the confidentiality of reviewer identities throughout the review process.
Authors publishing in NJIDE retain copyright to their work. Upon acceptance, authors grant NGHC Publications a non-exclusive license to publish and distribute the article. All published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License. Third parties may reuse published work, including for commercial purposes, as long as proper attribution is given to the original authors and source.
NJIDE is published by NGHC Publications, a division of Next Global Health Consulting Inc. (Canada). The journal does not accept commercial sponsorship that influences editorial content or decisions. Article Processing Charges (APCs) may apply to cover publication costs; waiver policies are available to authors from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Details are available on the journal website. NJIDE has no financial arrangement with any third party that could be perceived as a conflict of interest with editorial independence.
NJIDE is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and follows the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All submitted manuscripts must comply with the ethical standards for research involving human subjects, including obtaining appropriate ethical approval, obtaining informed consent, and maintaining data confidentiality. Authors are required to declare all conflicts of interest, funding sources, and contributions at the time of submission. Plagiarism, data fabrication, duplicate submission, and authorship misconduct will result in immediate rejection and, where appropriate, formal reporting to the authors’ institutions.

Personal information collected during the submission and review process, including names, email addresses, and institutional affiliations, is used solely for the purposes of managing submissions and editorial correspondence. NJIDE is committed to the long-term preservation of its published content. The journal participates in digital preservation programs, including LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS), to ensure permanent, secure, and free access to published articles in the event the journal ceases publication. Published articles are also deposited in relevant databases and maintained in the NGHC Publications digital repository, ensuring the integrity and accessibility of the scholarly record.
NJIDE is submitted for indexing in major academic databases, including PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science (Emerging Sources Citation Index, ESCI), and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
